Czech Prime Minister Petr Fiala confirmed today, Sunday, that there is no possibility to change basic elements in the government’s package of austerity decisions aimed at reducing the budget deficit.

Fiala said – in a statement carried by Radio “Prague International” – “The government will not give in to pressure, and it will implement changes in plans only in the event of errors in the draft decisions.”

The package, announced last Thursday, aims to save CZK 94 billion this year alone, by stopping non-investment subsidies, implementing tax changes, layoffs and more. The government also plans major reforms to the state pension system.
