King Salman and Prince Mohammed bin Salman (MBS) received a letter from Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi discussing bilateral relations and ways to improve them.
The Saudi Press Agency reported that Deputy Foreign Minister Walid al-Khereiji reportedly received the letters during a reception in Riyadh by Iran’s ambassador to the Kingdom Ali Reza Enayati.
At the reception, al-Khereji welcomed the Iranian envoy and “wished him success in his new job duties.”
Meanwhile, Enayati arrived in Riyadh on September 5 in his official capacity as ambassador.
The Director General of the General Department of Asian Affairs, Ambassador Mohammed al-Matrafi was also present.
The two former regional rivals put aside their differences and reached an agreement to establish diplomatic ties, in a deal brokered by China, after their ties broke down seven years ago.
Under an agreement signed in March, Riyadh and Tehran agreed to reopen embassies and consulates in each other’s countries and implement security and economic cooperation agreements signed more than 20 years ago.
