The delegation headed by the Deputy Speaker of Parliament Hakob Arshakyan Tuesday has held a meeting with the Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates of the Syrian Arab Republic, Faisal al-Mekdad, the Armenian National Assembly said in a statement.
At the meeting, Hakob Arshakyan emphasized the unique role of the Syrian Armenian community as a steadfast bridge of friendship between the two countries and peoples.
“Our primary concern is the current situation of the civilian population in Syria, including Armenians and other national minorities. In this regard, I would like to express our gratitude to the Syrian authorities for their attitude towards the Armenian community and our cultural heritage,” the Deputy Speaker of the National Assembly said.
The Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates of the Syrian Arab Republic, in turn, expressed support for the territorial integrity and sovereignty of the Republic of Armenia and considered any violation against the territorial integrity of the Republic of Armenia unacceptable.
The minister also endorsed the ‘Crossroads of Peace’ project, an Armenian initiative aimed at unblocking infrastructures, and strongly rejected any idea of an extraterritorial corridor that could call into question Armenia’s territorial integrity.”
