Sergei Mironov, chairman of the A Just Russia – For Truth party, told RIA Novosti that Russian President Vladimir Putin is not running for the presidential election from any party, but will collect signatures as a self-nominee.
“Today at the meeting of the organizing committee and will be announced that he is not coming from any party – neither from United Russia, nor from our party. He will collect signatures,” Sergei Mironov told the agency on the sidelines of the meeting of the initiative group to nominate Vladimir Putin.
According to the current legislation, self-nominated candidates must collect 300,000 signatures in their support to run in the election. Candidates from five parties with factions in the State Duma are exempt from this procedure. Candidates from parties that are not members of the parliament must submit 100 thousand signatures to the Central Election Commission.
Vladimir Putin announced his plans to run for a fifth presidential term on December 8. Today, December 16, the Moscow concert hall “Zaryadye” is hosting a meeting of a group of voters on his nomination. Voting in the presidential election will run for three days, from March 15 to 17, 2024.
Former Donetsk defense minister Igor Strelkov and Dolgoprudny municipal deputy from the Union of Right Forces Boris Nadezhdin also plan to run.
Grigory Yavlinsky, chairman of the federal political committee of the Yabloko party, will consider such a possibility if 10 million signatures are collected in his support, Kommersant reports.
