FM: Armenia Ready to Restore Gyumri-Kars, Yeraskh-Nakhichevan Railways

Armenia is ready to restore the Gyumri-Kars and Yeraskh-Nakhichevan railways. This was announced by the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Armenia, Ararat Mirzoyan, in his address Thursday at the Ministerial Meeting of Landlocked Developing Countries, which Armenia’s capital city of Yerevan is hosting.

The FM reflected on the Crossroads of Peace project presented by Armenia, stating that the latter, as a country that has been under siege for many years, is vitally interested in the opening of communications in the region—and in accordance with international norms and full respect for the sovereignty of countries.

Mirzoyan noted that during the opening of the aforesaid meeting, the Armenian PM presented the Crossroads of Peace project, whose objective is to connect the North and the South, the East and the West, and to strengthen the ties between people, thus contributing to the dialogue and the establishment of peace and stability in the region.

The FM emphasized that the Armenian government is ready to continue efforts to restore regional communications and build new ones. In this regard, he noted the importance of the North-South project, which aims not only to ensure a good connection between the northern and southern regions of Armenia, but also between the Persian Gulf and the Black Sea, thus becoming an important transit route between Western Asia and Eastern Europe.

Also, Mirzoyan stressed the readiness of Armenia to restore the Gyumri-Kars, Hrazdan-Kapan, Nrnadzor-Agarak, and Yeraskh-Nakhichevan border railways. The Crossroads of Peace is not a competitor of other logistics projects, but is meant to complement them, concluded the foreign minister of Armenia.
