“Georgian Dream”: The Issue of Railway Communication Between the Russian Federation and Georgia is Not Relevant

Georgian Dream Chairman Irakli Kobakhidze says that the issue of railway communication between Russia and Georgia is not on the agenda and that any decision will be made in accordance with the interests of the country:

“Any decision on our part is made in accordance with principles that are consistent with our national interests. Today, this issue is not on the agenda, so I don’t think it’s right to update it.”

Kobakhidze also commented on the restoration of direct flights with Russia and noted that Georgia does not impose sanctions against the Russian Federation, therefore Tbilisi’s position is “clear” and “clear”.

“Our government, the Minister of Foreign Affairs made a clear statement. It was stated that we would not accept sanctioned aircraft – we are only talking about cooperation with non-sanctioned Russian companies. And here there were speculations, so I will once again explain to the public: failure to provide technical documents means the imposition of sanctions, therefore, this is not an issue on which speculations can have grounds,” SOVA quotes Kobakhidze.

The other day, President of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of the Russian Federation Sergey Katyrin said that in 2023 the Russian-Georgian Business Council was created at the Chamber of Commerce and Industry, where specific issues are already being discussed. One of them is the opening of a railway transit “within the framework of the Silk Road route”, which will run along the Abkhaz section of the Georgian railway.
