Slovakia Lifted the Ban on the Import of Ukrainian Grain

Slovakia has lifted a unilateral ban on imports of agricultural products from Ukraine, German newspaper Die Zeit reported, citing the Ministry of Economy in Bratislava.

Slovakia imposed a temporary import ban on April 17 to protect its own agriculture. The list included sugar, dry pet food, seeds, hops, flax and hemp, both raw and processed fruits and vegetables, wine and other alcoholic products, and honey. However, the transit of these products to third countries was allowed.

Other EU countries bordering Ukraine have also blocked imports from Ukraine. The reason: farmers complained about huge Ukrainian competition after the removal of import duties. The EU, for its part, criticized the import bans.
