Ogun Samast, who spent 16 years in prison for the murder of Istanbul Armenian journalist Hrant Dink, the chief editor of Agos Armenian weekly of Istanbul, on January 19, 2007, but was recently released for “good behavior,” this time stands trial on charges of being a member of the Gulen movement—led by Turkish Islamic preacher Fethullah Gulen—which Turkey has declared a terrorist organization.
The hearing of the new court case against Samast has started in Istanbul’s 14th Court for Serious Crimes, reports the BirGun website. Now he is accused of being a member of the Gulen movement and assassinating Hrant Dink on the order of that organization.
Ogun Samast participated in this court session from a Trabzon court through video link. The attorneys of Hrant Dink’s legal successors, as well as journalists also participated in this court hearing. The court issued a travel ban against Samast.
