Russia Repeatedly Invited Armenia to Trilateral Negotiations With Azerbaijan

Russia has repeatedly invited Armenia to take part in trilateral negotiations with Azerbaijan, Spokesperson for the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs Maria Zakharova said during a weekly briefing.

“Invitations were sent to the Armenian side in September, October, and November to hold trilateral meetings with Azerbaijan, both in Moscow and on the sidelines of multilateral events,” she emphasized.

Zakharova noted that the Russian side “has still not received clear answers from Armenia to the invitations”.

“Yerevan is eager to negotiate in Washington and Brussels, although neither the US nor the EU can be considered honest brokers for several reasons. Their actions target pushing Russia out of the South Caucasus,” the official stated. “They want to destroy existing security mechanisms while stealing and distorting trilateral agreements reached with Moscow’s participation. Therefore, their mediation can bring no real benefits.”

“Yerevan’s naive gamble on the West’s assistance has failed. Despite existing invites, peace treaty negotiations [with Azerbaijan] are stalled,” she added.
